The head of Westchester's epicenter of LGBT pride says the grief felt after Sunday's shooting in Orlando, Florida, is palpable.
"It's horrible. I can't imagine how the families feel," says Judy Trolio, The Loft's executive director. "My heart is breaking."
The Loft is Westchester's largest LGBT community center. Trolio says she has never thought about her personal safety at The Loft until Monday.
"We have always prided ourselves on being a safe space, but after what happened this weekend, a lot of people don't feel safe," she says.
White Plains police visited The Loft Monday morning to offer extra patrols if needed.
The Loft will be holding a vigil next Monday night at Yonkers City Hall at 5 p.m.
