Westchester County legislators will vote next week on a nearly $2 billion spending plan for 2015.
Republican County Executive Rob Astorino calls the plan a disciplined budget without layoffs or tax increases. Democrats contend that there is too much borrowing going on.
"The proposed budget is paid for with our children's credit card," says County Legislator Peter Harckham.
County Legislator Jim Maisano says without borrowing $15 million, as many as 150 county workers could have gotten pink slips.
Harckham says the borrowing can be avoided and claims that nearly a billion dollars worth of capital improvement projects is being left on the back burner.
The public hearing will take place this Wednesday at 7 p.m.
Once county legislators approve the budget, it will go to the county executive who has the choice to sign or veto the plan.
