Westchester County legislators are calling for the end of the sale of children's items containing toxins.

The push, announced Wednesday, comes after the release of a recent study by the group Clean and Healthy New York.

The study found that popular children's toys like Hot Wheels contained cadmium and mercury. If ingested or inhaled, both substances could put a child at risk.

The toxins were also found in the zippers of children's clothing.

Currently, certain amounts of these chemicals are legal. Westchester County Legislative Majority Leader Catherine Borgia says that should change.

"There is a solution that government can implement with relative ease in order to make sure the products that are sold to our children are safe. Oftentimes its easier for counties to begin the process," she says.

She hopes to introduce the bill early next year.
