Legislators ask commission to take action after WCC hate flyers
Westchester County legislators are calling on the Human Rights Commission to take action after hate group recruitment flyers were spotted on Westchester Community College's Valhalla campus.
They say the group is "dropping the ball" in regard to the flyers found last week at the college.
Legislators say the commission needs to be more proactive and outline a specific approach to dealing with what they are calling a rise in white supremacist behavior both on college campuses and in the community as a whole.
"I hope the message comes out strong enough for everybody that there isn't any hate here and that we're not going to allow it. We're going to fight back," says White Plains resident Jenny Bernhard.
Bernhard is a parent of a college-aged student, so she says this fight is personal. Bernard's goal, along with many others, is a task force to address and stop hate speech.
