An outburst by a Rockland County politician caught on camera last week is drawing fire from other local lawmakers who want to see his behavior officially condemned.
County Legislator Aron Wieder was captured on camera calling someone an anti-Semite on Friday after a press conference by a group supporting educational standards for yeshivas he opposes.
The incident prompted Legislator Laurie Santulli to send a letter to the legislative chair Saturday asking the county to condemn Wieder's actions. Santulli says this was one of many incidences when Wieder's "out of control" behavior has embarrassed other politicians and the public.
"He's entitled to his opinion, but he doesn't have the right to go and use a term that is used in regard to such atrocities, and just throw it around," Santulli says.
Santulli tells News 12 that Wieder has called her and many others an anti-Semite and routinely mocks people in public.
Wieder tells News 12 that he thinks Santulli herself should be condemned.
"I think that Laurie Santulli needs to be condemned not only by the legislature, but by all good and decent people in Rockland County," Wieder says, also sharing with News 12 an item Santulli posted on Facebook in June.
Wieder and Santulli will come face to face again next Tuesday, when the legislative body holds its next session.
