Leg on LI beach may crack Mamaroneck torso case
A leg that washed ashore Wednesday on a Long Island beach could lead to a break in the case of a torso found in Mamaroneck.
A caretaker found the severed leg in a trash bag around 9 a.m. on a private Cove Neck beach belonging to Cablevision President and CEO Charles Dolan. Cablevision is the parent company of News 12 Westchester. Police on Long Island are working to identify who the leg belongs to.
In Westchester, Mamaroneck police believe the leg may belong to a woman whose torso washed ashore there in a suitcase in early March. Mamaroneck authorities believe their victim is Hispanic, and they say there are similarities in the body parts. However, they are awaiting medical reports from Long Island.
Mamaroneck police have yet to identify their victim, but they hope a cherry tattoo will help crack the case.
