A discrimination lawsuit has been filed against the Orange County Board of Elections, due to a decision not to allow outside poll inspectors in the Hasidic Village of Kiryas Joel.
The lawsuit claims the county discriminated against poll inspectors by not allowing them to work in Kiryas Joel on Primary Day. The Board of Elections originally agreed, but then retracted the decision at the last minute.
Petitioners say they wanted to oversee the elections, following allegations of voter fraud.
Kiryas Joel officials call the request for outside poll inspectors a politically motivated "attack," and say their elections are fairly and legally overseen.
The Board of Elections Commissioners have had no comment.
