Two local lawmakers promised that Yonkers schools will no longer feel the budget crunch.
Senator Nick Spano (R-Yonkers) and Assemblyman J. Gary Pretlow (D-Mount Vernon) say a significant increase in state education dollars is already heading to Yonkers to close the $100 million deficit. In addition, when the casino opens at Yonkers Raceway in September, money from the video lottery terminals will also go to the school district. Spano says $20 million of the $50 million Yonkers is expected to get this year comes from that state lottery resource.
Pretlow say the video lottery terminals are a big part of the funding solution for education and every district will benefit from the revenues derived from them.
