Lauren Spierer's parents talk exclusively with News 12
In an interview only on News 12, the parents of the missing student college student from Edgemont bared their emotions to Lisa Reyes.
Lauren Spierer, 20, vanished without a trace after a night out with friends at Indiana University on June 3.
Charlene Spierer continues to hold out hope that her daughter is alive, but admits it is a long shot; "I think the odds are against us. We desperately wish for that, so we do hold on to that shred of hope."
Lauren's father Robert says trying to get to the bottom of their daughter's disappearance has been disappointing; "If we can get additional information from these boys, we can simply help figure out what happened to her and move on. Some of the people have refused to speak with us. Corey Rossman, who Lauren spent a lot of time with that night, absolutely refuses to talk to us, and that's terribly frustrating."
Police have searched Rossman's apartment and his car, but never recovered any link to Lauren.
Spierer was also with Rossman's neighbor Jay Rosenbaum, hanging out at his apartment until 4:30 a.m. Police say he watched her leave, turning the corner to walk just three blocks to her own apartment and was never seen again.
Unlike Rossman, Rosenbaum has met with the family with his lawyer by his side. The Spierers say useful information was hard to come by; "We were not able to get any additional information as a result of that meeting unfortunately."
Police are looking into whether drugs could have played a role in the disappearance. Lauren has a heart condition, taking daily medication, but reports surfaced she may have used cocaine that night. Robert Spierer says, "Her friends have told us that she didn't. Perhaps that's the answer."
The Spierers have done about all they can to find their daughter. They have hired a private investigator, organized volunteer searches and demanded answers. But after six months, there are still more questions than answers. The Spierers, now back in Westchester, wait and pray, trying to find strength while knowing they may never see Lauren again.
