Westchester County Executive Latimer gave a coronavirus update Tuesday.
There have been 266,962 Westchester residents who have been tested.
Latimer said 34,838 people have tested positive throughout the pandemic. There are currently 480 active cases.
One person died overnight, bringing the total deaths to 1,425.
A little under 70 people remain hospitalized.
He said there were 40 new cases, and that includes 19 positive people in Chappaqua.
Latimer was joined by North Salem Town Supervisor Warren Lucas.
Latimer said the decision to close Rye Playland for the season was one of the toughest decisions he had to make. He said that the beach and boardwalk near Playland and mini golf course there will remain open. The nature preserves near the amusement park will also remain open. On July 24 and Aug. 7, there will be drive-in movies in the Playland parking lot.
Tibbets and Wilson Woods pools will open this weekend. The Playland pool will be closed for the season.
Latimer said that there will be employment opportunities for the seasonal workers who would have been employed by Playland. He said more people will be needed to work at the beaches and at the pools this season.
He said the discussion about the future of Rye Playland legally is still under discussion and before a bankruptcy judge. He said Standard Amusement and the county are in a productive dialogue.
Latimer said the daily new briefings will end on Monday.
