Labor Day travelers go by planes, trains & automobiles
Westchester residents planning to travel for the Labor Day weekend should expect a lot of company.
According to AAA, almost 29 million Americans will drive to their holiday destination. Last year, nearly 3 million vehicles traveled more than 97 million miles along the New York State Thruway on Labor Day weekend. State police are promising extra patrols. They say they will be watching out for speeders, aggressive drivers and DWI.
Residents planning to depart from Westchester County Airport are advised to get a ride and leave their cars at home since parking is limited. Metro-North has extra trains running between 1 and 4 p.m. Friday to accommodate extra riders. On Labor Day, trains will run on a Sunday schedule.
