An agency that helps families and youth will be opening a new office in Ossining after not having a space for nearly 10 years.

Davida Gilchrest, the founder of Keeping Communities Safe, says the agency had to rent out random spaces in the county to stay running.

Gilchrest is giving tours of their new space on Spring Street, where she says she was born and raised. She says there hasn't been an agency like KCS since the 1980s.

KCS helps people pay their bills, offers counseling and provides housing assistance.

Gilchrest says she has been paying out of pocket since 2007 to keep the agency running because she wishes she had a place to turn to when she was a child.

KCS has a youth program for children who have had trouble with the law and for young adults who need career guidance.

Jasmine Clark, a member of KCS, says the program's motivational speakers, field trips and career development workshops changed her life.

Gilchrest says she's proud of everyone's success stories and even more proud the stories will now begin in Ossining.

The office opens on April 15.
