Justice demanded in jail cell death
A town hall meeting in Mount Vernon held on Tuesday evening focused on the mysterious jail cell death of a mother of eight.
Raynette Turner, 42, was found dead in her jail cell two days after she was arrested for shoplifting. The state attorney general is investigating, but family members are demanding more answers nearly a month later.
They stood alongside community activists and local leaders for the meeting at The Mansion on North Third Avenue.
Turner's son, Jerod, described his everyday struggle to make sense of what exactly happened to his mother.
"I love my mom, I think about her every day," he said. "They don't know the pain and suffering we go through every day."
A representative from the mayor's office also attended the meeting. The representative says that city officials stand behind how the officers handled the case.
