The trial of Carmela Magnetti, who is accused of helping her best friend carry out and cover up the murder of her mother, entered its second day of jury deliberations Friday.
Magnetti?s friend, Anna Trovato, was convicted of second-degree murder for killing her mother, Patricia Mery, in her Ossining home in 2006. Prosecutors say Magnetti drove Trovato to the home knowing Trovato intended to kill her mother. They also say Magnetti helped clean up the crime scene.
The defense says Trovato and Magnetti had nothing to do with the murder and are merely scapegoats for the police, who botched the investigation.
The jury asked the judge to define and clarify the third charge of tampering with physical evidence early Friday. Magnetti faces 15 years in prison.
