Judge upholds BOE ruling on Fred Hernandez
A state Supreme Court judge ruled that Yonkers mayoral hopeful Fred Hernandez did not have enough valid signatures to force a primary against Mayor Mike Spano.
Last week, the Westchester Board of Elections ruled that only 823 of the 1,000 signatures needed for Hernandez to force a primary race against Spano were valid.
A spokesperson for the BOE says some of the people who signed up used bogus names or are no longer with the party.
The state Supreme Court justice upheld the ruling this week.
Hernandez says that if what the BOE says is true, it was not intentional and it's not an indication of fraud.
Mayor Mike Spano's campaign says, "Fred Hernandez has no one to blame but himself. He has the same opportunity as everyone else to get signatures from registered voters who actually live in Yonkers."
Spano will face former Republican City Councilman Bill Nuckel in the November elections.
