A retired state Supreme Court judge ruled the four Mamaroneck police officers at the center of a corruption scandal involving their superiors were illegally fired.
In 2003, Officer Jeremy Skehan and three other officers filed a federal corruption suit against the police department citing cronyism, nepotism and misconduct. The four officers were fired for misconduct. Usually the village board hears all cases concerning police officers. However, a retired judge was brought in to handle the case because the officers named village board members in their allegations.
Now the officers want their jobs back and back pay. The attorney for the fired officers says he doesn?t understand how the judge did not award them their back pay and jobs when he found the termination and disciplinary procedures were illegal. Both sides are planning to appeal.
