A Mamaroneck Village Court judge Thursday denied a request by a Hommocks Middle School music teacher to lower his $1 million bail.Omar Rodriguez, 27, was first charged with six counts of endangering the welfare of a child. Mamaroneck police say Rodriguez inappropriately touched students and took risqué pictures of them. Rodriguez was then charged with third-degree rape Monday for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old Connecticut girl in his apartment. The teen came forward after hearing about the other charges.
The district attorney says Rodriguez is a flight risk. Rodriguez?s lawyer says he will now go to the county court to try to have the bail lowered. Meanwhile, parents say they are not happy with how the school district handled the complaints against Rodriguez and are considering a lawsuit.
