Jewelry designer joins fight against sex trafficking
Briarcliff Manor designer Rosena Sammi has a new jewelry collection that is changing lives.
Sammi has partnered with "Apne Aap," a group dedicated to the fight against human trafficking. The group is helping rescue women and young girls from the red light district in India. "These are girls as young as 8, plucked from their villages, and taken into brothels. Apne Aap rescues these girls, and gives them a chance at a new life," says Sammi.
Some of the proceeds from Sammi's 'Who's Sari Now" collection will help pay for education and jobs for the victims. A simple ring can pay for two days of education. A set of bangles can pay for a week of education. "It gives you perspective about your own life, and what you do. You hear the stories, and the incredible difficulties these women have overcome," adds Sammi.
Pieces in the collection start at just $15.
