Irvington Mayor Erin Malloy announced her resignation before the Board of Trustees Thursday afternoon, citing family matters.
?Her daughter was injured in an accident six weeks ago, and it is important for the mayor to spend as much time with her as possible,? explains Deputy Administrator Lawrence Schopfer.
?I resign not because the work of the Board of Trustees seems insignificant, but rather because I am convinced of its importance, and I cannot give the time and dedication that our village deserves from its officials,? Malloy said in a statement.
Local business owners say they will miss Malloy's dedication to Main Street- a quality they hope her successor will possess.
Marci DeMatteo, president of the local Chamber of Commerce, says with six businesses already shut down since the beginning of the economic crisis, it is important to have someone in office who will continue to help with the growth of local businesses.
