Iona College in New Rochelle is preparing for a visit this Saturday from Republican presidential candidate and Ohio Gov. John Kasich.
Students at the school on Wednesday registered to be in the audience for Kasich's stop in Westchester County. His town hall-style event will be held inside the Mulcahy Gymnasium within the Hynes Athletics Center on campus. It is the same place were former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee spoke shortly after withdrawing his bid for the presidency in 2008.
Political science professor Mary Hagerty says she believes Kasich may do well with reaching out to millennial voters.
Last week, Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton took centerstage at SUNY Purchase and was heckled by supporters of rival candidate Bernie Sanders.
Kasich's appearance will be the first campaign stop in Westchester County made by a Republican candidate.
The school's president says in a statement that Saturday's rally is not an endorsement, adding that the college is reaching out to candidates from both parties to invite them to campus before New York's primary elections on Tuesday, April 19.
