Inmate allegedly assaults Westchester jail office
A corrections officer was allegedly assaulted by an inmate inside the Westchester County jail Tuesday evening.
According to Alonzo West, president of the Corrections Officer Benevolent Association, the 30-year-old officer was working the A-block in the penitentiary when he needed to secure an inmate before administering medication to other inmates in the block.
West said the officer was then pulled into the inmate's cell and attacked.
Authorities are now investigating what exactly happened.
“Such matters are treated with the utmost seriousness and…assaults on staff are prosecuted to the highest extent of the law,” the deputy commissioner said in a statement.
As a result of the incident, the officer sustained injuries to his face and neck.
News 12 has been told that he is recovering at home, but it's unclear if he will decide to return to work after he's fully healed.
