The Indian Point emergency drill held at Hudson Valley Hospital Center Thursday is being called a success.
The nuclear power plant facility is located 2.5 miles from the emergency room at the hospital. During the drill, the hospital staff had to go through the steps it would take to treat an Indian Point worker injured in a plant accident.
The drill is conducted twice a year and uses a special decontamination room donated by Entergy, which owns the plant. A medical safety consultant from Entergy is on hand at the drills to present the hospital staff with issues they have to resolve while treating the patient.
Hospital and Entergy officials say the drill is a great way to train the staff on how to respond in plant emergencies.
