Hundreds mourn elderly couple killed in crash
Hundreds of people paid their respects Sunday in Mount Vernon to an elderly couple killed in a crash.
Mourners gathered at the Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home to share fond memories of 84-year-old Bernard and 82-year-old Phyllis Cecere. The couple had been married 58 years.
"My parents were wonderful people," said Ralph Cecere. "They would give themselves to everyone."
"They were my only grandparents and they're gone now," said 19-year-old Serena Cecere.
Justin Martinez, 19, is charged with driving impaired under drugs in the Nov. 7 wreck on the Bronx River Parkway. The couple had been driving home from dancing in the Bronx. Their car ran off the road and struck a tree before bursting into flames, trapping the couple.
Funeral arrangements have not been finalized because the victims' bodies have not been released to the family yet.
