Hundreds come to honor fallen hero in Yonkers
A Yonkers soldier who died in the line of duty was buried Wednesday will full military honors.
Veterans, elected officials and residents joined Staff Sgt. Courtney Hollinsworth?s family and friends at the Community Baptist Church in Yonkers. The 26-year-old graduate of Saunders High School was killed September 9 when an insurgent bomb went off in Baghdad.
It was Hollinsworth's third tour of duty; he did one tour in Afghanistan and two in Iraq. Even though he was a newlywed, family members say Hollinsworth chose to go back a third time to be with his unit.
Hundreds lined the streets of North Broadway to pay tribute to the fallen soldier. Many in attendance did not even know Hollinsworth, but said they came to honor a great hero. Hollinsworth was buried at Calverton National Cemetery on Long Island. To view more on the funeral of Staff Sgt.
