Hundreds poured into a Rye church Saturday to say a final farewell to a 21-year-old Dobbs Ferry man who was struck by a car while hailing a cab in Manhattan on New Year?s Day.

John Katsihtis and a group of friends took the train from Westchester to Manhattan on New Year?s Eve because they didn't want to risk drinking and driving. Around 3 a.m. New Year?s Day, family members say Katsihtis was hailing a taxi in Manhattan when he was struck by a drunken driver.

He suffered severe head trauma and internal injuries. Katsihtis fell into a coma and was pronounced dead on Monday at Bellevue Hospital. However, his body was kept on life support until Thursday so his organs could be donated to someone in need.

Peter Katsihtis says his nephew's death has deeply impacted the entire family. John was being groomed to take over the family business, the Crown Donut Restaurant near Yankee Stadium in the Bronx. Friends of the Ardsley High School graduate say he will never be forgotten.

The Katsihtis family has started a foundation in John?s name. His father plans to use the charity to educate others about the dangers of drinking and driving.
