Humberto turning away from the United States
Hurricane Humberto is slowly making a turn to the northeast and will begin pulling away from the southeastern United States while slowly strengthening during the first half of the week.
It is not out of the question that Humberto becomes a major hurricane before wind shear increases later in the week. Despite pulling away from the United States, rough surf and strong rip currents are likely from the mid-Atlantic coast into the Southeast through the coming week.
By Thursday, Humberto is expected to pass close to Bermuda, still as a hurricane. All interests in Bermuda should pay close attention to Humberto as it appears as if tropical storm conditions will be possible. If Humberto passes close enough to the island, there could be hurricane-force wind gusts.
Across the rest of the Atlantic, a tropical wave with an embedded low pressure area located about halfway across the Atlantic. While this can slowly develop into a tropical depression through the course of the week, it is expected to pass to the north of the Lesser Antilles this weekend.
Also, a broad area of low pressure over the western Gulf of Mexico is producing disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Development of this system is unlikely before it moves over southern Texas or northern Mexico later Monday into Tuesday.
