The Ellis Island Initiative brought together government officials, businesses, and groups to brainstorm the best way to welcome newcomers to the area.
Officials say immigrants make up 24% of the population in the lower Hudson Valley.
Local leaders also say welcoming newcomers could give a boost to local economies as well as benefit tax revenue.
Local leaders discussed expediting work authorizations, support for childcare, funding and more.
