As protests and riots continue across the country in the wake of George Floyd's death, parents in the Hudson Valley are looking for advice when talking to their kids.
Psychologist and family therapist Dr. Jeffrey Kassinove says its crucial to talk calmly to children about these difficult times. “That's really important, for them to understand that they have their parents, that their homes are safe and that they're being well-protected. That's certainly key. And then also let them understand that this is a big time in America where this could have some big positive effects, and we just don't know,” says Dr. Kassinove.
Dr. Kassinove says it's important to tell your kids that it's normal to feel anxiety during this time, and if necessary, they shouldn't hesitate to talk to a professional.
