Doctors and nurses at White Plains Hospital were reunited with the babies whose lives they may have saved.

The White Plains Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit's (NICU) bi-annual reunion for families, physicians and nurses took place at the Westchester Marriot in Tarrytown.

Those in attendance donned crowns to celebrate the special bond they all share.

Organizers of the event say many of the children spent so much time in the NICU that the hospital staff became a second family to them.

"It's emotional--I am just so blessed to have this support system that really helped us," said Haley Pagnotta, a mother of one of the babies.

The nearly 600 people who attended also enjoyed a meal and face painting.

Physicians and nurses say the event is just as important to them as it is for the children and their parents.

"It's priceless to us because some of these babies spend months with us in our NICU," says Kristin Geiss, a nurse at  White Plains Hospital. "So they become like our family so getting to chance to see them again and see them grow up is amazing."

Organizers of the event say they have to do this every other year because they get such a big turnout.

The event has been going on for 20 years and nurses say they plan to keep it going.
