What started as a flicker of hope for one Rockland County boy has become a bonfire of support for thousands in the Bahamas still recovering from Hurricane Dorian.
Austin Solomon, of Montebello, started selling homemade candles last week to raise money for Dorian relief in the Bahamas.
Since then, the 11-year-old sold more than 100 candles and has orders for a hundred more.
He says the decision to donate all the proceeds to the Bahamas was deeply personal. "Every morning before I go to school my mom always has the news on her iPad. And I've watched it [get] destructed. And I've been to the Bahamas. It's such a beautiful place. And seeing it destroyed, it hurts my heart."
