Security is being stepped up at the Mall at Bay Plaza during the holidays.
The extra police presence from the 45th Precinct, which covers Co-op City and surrounding communities, is being increased to help deter crime and keep shoppers safe.
Normally, the shopping mall is covered by one patrol car.
According to the 45th Precinct, two more patrol cars will be assigned to the busy shopping area during the week and an extra officer on the weekends.
The extra police presence is coming after shoppers expressed concerns about safety and traffic following the mall's opening.
Police say shoppers can also help keep thieves at bay by locking car doors, and not flashing cash, cellphones and other valuables in public and also being aware of their surroundings.
