Holiday season kicks into high gear
Holiday season has officially begun and that means people will be hearing the Salvation Army's bells and seeing its red kettles.
In addition to the occasional band providing holiday cheer, the familiar Salvation Army Kettles have been providing hope for many.
However, while the demand is up for the organization's help programs, donations are down. Officials in Westchester say they are already $15,000 behind last year's pace at this point.
To help make donating easier, some Salvation Army kettles are going high tech with handheld card readers so people can use credit and debit cards.
The Army is testing the new card readers and the process will be evaluated at the end of the season.
