Historians and detectives gathered Tuesday as they revisited clues from an unsolved double homicide from 1952.

Ramapo Town Clerk Robert Nugent and his friend Charles Simpson, a New Jersey banker, were found dead in October of that year in the woods near Sloatsburg. 

Mayor Carl Wright says the theory is that the two men stumbled upon a deer poacher who shot them.

Police believed they had a motive back then, but they had no suspect. Then 30 years later, a woman came forward and said her brother, John Youman, committed the crime.

Youman went on trial in Orange County and was found not guilty. Nugent's daughter, who attended Tuesday's event, says she still believes Youman was responsible.
