The Westchester County Board of Elections set out over the weekend to correct erroneous information on a mailer sent to Spanish-speaking voters.
In a story first reported by News 12 Westchester, about 20,000 Latinos received the mailer, which incorrectly said Nov. 9 was Election Day instead of Tuesday, Nov. 4. In an effort to address the confusion, the Board of Elections says an automated message went out to 72,000 homes in Westchester this weekend that provided the correct date.
The phone-call correction went out in Cortlandt, Mount Kisco, Mamaroneck, Peekskill, Scarsdale, Greenburgh, White Plains and New Rochelle.
The Board of Elections says an out-of-state printer that did not get the information right is to blame for the incorrect mailer.
On Election Day, Westchester County will be required to provide more translators after the U.S. Justice Department found in 2005 that the county wasn't doing enough to help Spanish-speaking voters.
