Hillels of Westchester filed a Title 6 civil rights complaint against Sarah Lawrence College in Yonkers.
Anyone who believes that a recipient of federal financial assistance has discriminated against any person on the basis of race or national origin can file.
Hillel, acting on behalf of former and current Jewish students at the college, says that a hostile environment on campus has forced the Jewish students to conceal their identity.
They say the administration at the college is aware of this problem and is also complicit in contributing to it.
They say students have been subjected to discrimination, harassment and intimidation - and that the administration failed to protect these students.
The Jewish students may not be the only ones affected.
In one instance, Hillel cited a Jewish professor who said he found Nazi imagery on his office door more than once but was told by administration to "make no issue of it."
In a statement, the college said that this appears to be a repetition of claims that Hillel of Westchester made to media organizations last fall.
It also said, "there is no place on our campus for antisemitism, Islamophobia or hate speech of any kind."
