Hillcrest teen saves his family from fire
A Hillcrest family of seven was left homeless Friday after a fire destroyed their home, but thanks to the family?s oldest son everyone made it out alive.
Eighteen-year-old Anthony Hardy didn?t even have time to throw his shoes on after he saw the flames. He ran through the house corralling his family members and their six dogs and getting them out of the house.
?I was just trying to get my little sisters out because my little brother was crying and screaming for my name, so I just ran up and tried to get him out,? Hardy says.
When firefighters arrived at the South Mountain Road home, half of it was engulfed in flames, which were spreading quickly. Several fire departments pitched in to douse the flames.
Ramapo fire officials are trying to figure out exactly how the fire started.
