Hillcrest residents oppose housing plan
Hillcrest residents came out in full force Monday night to oppose a controversial housing development in the hamlet.
A developer wants to build at least three duplexes on a one-acre plot of land in the hamlet of Hillcrest, located off of East Hickory Street between Spring Valley and Ramapo.
Community members are opposing the project, called "Monsey Flats," saying that it will disrupt the character of the neighborhood.
They also say that the developers want at least 22 variances which they have called "egregious."
The developer's lawyers say that on their part, they will be following all of the rules and that they are waiting for the Zoning Board of Appeals to make the right decision.
The board did not make a decision Monday night, but instead decided that they would visit the plot of land on Aug. 10.
