High school steps up security after alleged kidnapping
Spring Valley High School stepped up security Thursday after an alleged kidnapping attempt by one of its former students.
The school was placed on lockdown Wednesday as police searched for former student Savion Lewallen, who allegedly assaulted and tried to abduct a 15-year-old girl while she was walking to the high school.
The lockout was lifted about 45 minutes later after police found Lewallen in the woods and arrested him.
While there was extra security on Thursday, students say that things were pretty much back to normal. The victim returned to school.
Lewallen was arraigned Wednesday. He will be tried as an adult on charges that include kidnapping, assault, robbery and strangulation.
He is being held on $75,000 bail and is due back in court next week.
