Thousands of high school seniors from Yonkers received their diplomas Sunday.
Yonkers students from Roosevelt, Riverside, Lincoln and Gorton high schools donned caps and gowns at the Westchester County Center to get their diplomas.
The graduation ceremony comes as a $78 million bill was passed in Albany to begin rebuilding Gorton High School, along with two new pre-K schools.
Superintendent Edwin Quezada tells News 12 he is excited for the future of the Yonkers school system.
"It's a great time for Yonkers," Quezada said. "We will be rebuilding three schools and shovels will be in the dirt soon."
Gorton High school graduates say they wish the reconstruction had come a little sooner, but they are happy for the students who will experience the new updates to the school.
