Town officials are holding another press conference at 10 a.m. today about the medical waste that washed ashore on one Hempstead Town beach.
As News 12 reported, 35 hypodermic needles and other medical waste were found on the shoreline of East Atlantic Beach Friday night.
Out of an abundance of caution, all South Shore Ocean Beaches, as well as Nickerson and Malibu beach were shut down until further notice.
"The concern is always that a resident finds it by stepping on it. Or gets injured by a needle," says Town Supervisor Lauren Gillen.
Crews searched the water and sand Saturday to make sure nothing else washed up during high tides.
Police are now investigating what those needles were used for and how they got there.
The city of Long Beach posted on its website that its beaches will remain open.
Officials say lifeguards deemed the ocean safe and they'll monitor the area for any debris or waste that may wash up.
