Heavy police presence reported in Carmel
An incident that brought a heavy police response to a Carmel road has been cleared, according to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.
Police were on John Simpson Road near the Centennial Golf Club since 3 p.m. Friday.
A woman who works as the supervisor at a tavern within the golf club described seeing "snipers on the golf course," and said there were about 20 police cars across the street. She said the scene was at a house across from the entrance to the golf course, and said it might have been some type of hostage situation.
Police have not confirmed that information.
Officials said there was no public threat during the incident. They did not provide details on what prompted the police presence.
