Heastie makes 1st public appearance in Westchester
Newly appointed state Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie made his first public Westchester appearance since assuming the post.
The Bronx lawmaker attended a Westchester County Democratic breakfast Sunday in New Rochelle.
When asked about his predecessor, former Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver, Heastie chose to focus on his own priorities.
Silver pleaded not guilty to federal bribery charges last month. The once powerful Democrat is accused of collecting nearly $4 million in bribes and kickbacks from law firms without actually doing any legal work.
One major talking point at the breakfast was Gov. Cuomo's email policy. Cuomo is under fire for his administration's policy to automatically delete state agency employees' emails after 90 days.
Heastie says the issue has not been a major priority.
Cuomo officials say the policy encourages responsible use of email. It has been in place since 2013.
