Suspended Clarkstown Police Chief Michael Sullivan is once again the topic of disciplinary hearings, just a day after a court officer recommended that he should be found guilty of four counts of misconduct. 

Clarkstown residents have described the charges against suspended Police Chief Michael Sullivan as a political witch hunt.

On Monday, a hearing officer recommended Sullivan should be found guilty of misconduct charges for allegedly deleting data from his cellphone. He was accused of doing this last year at a time when he faced administrative charges. Sullivan says the recommendations are merely recommendations.

“I do not believe it is proper, sustainable or substantiated by the hearing at all,” he said.

Sullivan faces another 22 disciplinary charges during a separate set of hearings, which continued Tuesday. He says the public hearings allow people to see the accusations made against him are false.

“I wanted everybody to come to see, and I wanted the facts presented to the public, and I didn't want it in private,” said Sullivan.

The Town Board must vote to accept or reject the recommendations. That date has not been set.

Sullivan is still planning on running for town supervisor in November against incumbent George Hoehmann.
