The new HBO miniseries about the historic desegregation of Yonkers began its six-episode run Sunday night.
"Show Me A Hero" chronicles the city's struggle to build low-income housing in its predominately white east side in the 1980s.
Longtime city residents say the initial push to desegregate was divisive, but some, like Sonya Smith, say time heals all wounds.
Smith has lived in the William Schlobohm Housing Complex, one of the on-site locations used for filming the series, for more than 30 years.
She says people who originally protested the housing decision have come to understand its necessity.
Decades after the events chronicled in the HBO series, race and discrimination are still heated topics of public discourse.
"Show Me A Hero" is a six-part series and will air on the next few Sundays.
