Workers at the American Red Cross in Hawthorne have been busy for weeks, answering phones from people around the Hudson Valley who want to help hurricane victims.

The 136-year-old organization has been pushed to its limit after natural disasters unfolded in Texas, Florida, Mexico and Puerto Rico.

Currently, 160 volunteers from the New York area are on the ground in Texas and Florida lending a hand, while 30 more are prepared to go to Puerto Rico.

Longtime staffer Abigail Adams says the need for help is as great as she's ever seen. She encourages more people to get involved by either volunteering time or donating money to the Red Cross.
