? Parents of some Hastings students fear their children were exposed to anthrax during a school performance.
A NYC drummer and dancer who contracted anthrax performed for 120 third-graders at Hillside Elementary School February 10. Vado Diomande is now fighting for his life in a Pennsylvania hospital. Officials say he contracted anthrax while making drums from animal skins, which he purchased on the Ivory Coast. Hastings School Board President Mary Wirth says the students are not at risk because they came in contact with the finished, disinfected drums, not the untreated hides. Wirth says the school will not be decontaminated.
State and county officials will be at Hillside Elementary School February 27 to answer parents? questions.
