A Hartsdale woman says she and her 83-year-old mother have been out of their apartment since July 2 due to mold.
Kathy McCabe says she and her mother are living out of plastic bags and in complete disarray in a White Plains hotel while their apartment is covered in mold. She says inspectors told them they couldn't live there.

Kathy McCabe says the mold was so bad in the walls that a mushroom grew outside of it.
She tells News 12 that Garamatan Property Management, which maintains the building, hasn’t been communicating with them since and that they never told them how bad the mold was or when work would begin.
McCabe says a notice had to be posted on her door because work began without necessary permits from the town of Greenburgh. Meanwhile, she has been trying to take care of her mother who was diagnosed with mouth cancer.
"This is not the way it's supposed to be at the end of your life. She should be home, comfortable. This is not the way I should be spending my last days with her,” she says.

Surpassing what insurance can cover, McCabe says soon they won't be able to afford to stay in the hotel, telling News 12 that they've already spent thousands of dollars.
News 12 reached out to the owner of their unit, but has not heard back. The property manager would not say who allowed the work to start without proper permits, but did say work is set to begin soon.
A GoFundMe link has been created to help the family.
