Haitians in Rockland County are fighting to stay in the United States.

People in the Hudson Valley protested against President Donald Trump's decision to end Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for Haitians.

TPS for Haitians was granted following the 2010 earthquake that caused crippling devastation. The decision allowed Haitians who sought refuge in the United States to stay while their country recovered.

Some lawmakers like state Sen. David Carlucci, of New City, say ending TPS is "inhumane."

"It's wrong for the Haitian community in Haiti, it's wrong for the Haitian community here," Carlucci says.

About 60,000 Haitian immigrants live in the country under the status. TPS is currently expected to last until 2019.
