The family of a Haitian immigrant who was shot and killed by police is receiving more high-profile support, as prominent Haitian leaders were in Spring Valley today to find out more on the incident. Nearly two weeks ago, Herve Gilles, originally from Haiti, was shot and killed by a veteran Spring Valley police officer outside of a bar. Gilles' family recently hired a top civil rights lawyer, and today, the consul general to Haiti was joined by other Haitian leaders at a news conference. "We are going to check on the police report to see what happened to the Haitian citizen," said Charles Antoine, the consul general. Inside the Spring Valley Community Center, it was standing-room only as politicians and Haitian leaders discussed the shooting.
