A rumor that someone brought a gun to school prompted officials to lock down Fox Lane Middle School for four hours Friday.

Officials say a student overheard a conversation that there may be a weapon in the school. The school was quickly locked down and all the students stayed in the classrooms while Bedford and state police conducted a search. Police did not recover a weapon during a search of the campus.

School officials say the students that had the conversation about the gun could face disciplinary action.
